Why a Human Services Campus?

By working together, the agencies have been able to provide increased and improved comprehensive services to area residents in need, they have served more people and saved money on operations and maintenance - putting those valuable dollars back into human services programs.

The Charles E Lakin donor circle plaza pictured here with Iowa West Foundation CEO,Todd Graham, is a tribute to the Lakin Family, Iowa West Foundation, the five campus agencies and all of those in the community who understood the need of "Why a Human Services Campus?" and gave with their hearts. When our agencies were considering individual capital campaigns for possible renovation or new construction, each went to Iowa West Foundation to seek their interest level. After hearing from the five agencies, the Iowa West Foundation suggested we come together and discuss the possiblities of some type of collaboration and THE REST IS HISTORY.

The Campus Brings Many Benefits to the Community

• The five agencies saved more than $11 million in constructions costs over what it would have cost had each agency built on its own;

• Each agency has improved or expanded the services they previously provided;

• The project will created a high-quality commercial grade anchor development in a neighborhood long suffering from low expectations, leading to future development opportunities for the City of Council Bluffs;

• The project produced more than $24 million in capital improvements in a major traffic corridor to the City of Council Bluffs;

• Boys & Girls Club is saving over $50,000 annually in expenses by sharing a building and gymnasium with The Salvation Army.
