MICAH House Volunteers

Joan and Laura both agree that one of the best things about volunteering is the friendships they have made. Both began volunteering in the Spring of 2010 for MICAH House teaching a budgeting class for clients. The pair started out with a curriculm which they have expanded and adapted to best motivate and assist clients with learning new budgeting skills.

Along with teaching budgeting Laura and Joan are the President and Vice President (respectively) of the MICAH House Guild. The Guild is brand new this year and everyone on campus is excited for Joan and Laura to take on this leadership position.

ConAgra Foods Holiday Dinner
ConAgra Foods Holiday Dinner

Holiday's on the Charles E. Lakin Human Services Campus were busy this year! Adopt-a-Family programs, holiday meals, Red Kettle campaigning, and toy drives took place through the agencies for the clients and community members they serve. On December 13, ConAgra staff provided the ConAgra Foods Holiday Dinner for the Charles E. Lakin Human Services Campus, hosted by the agencies at the Boys & Girls Club gym. The following week their staff transported the youth to the ConAgra Foods Ice Rink in downtown Omaha for an evening of festive fun. On December 20, the Campus Holiday Children's Party took place at the Boys & Girls Club gym. The event for all campus clients featured photos with Santa and Mrs. Clause, book and toy donations, the mascots from the American Red Cross, and activities and cookies provided by volunteers.

American Red Cross Volunteers

In April of 2009 Ethan began his volunteer work at the Red Cross assisting with blood services and clerical work. This summer Ethan went to Valley, Nebraska after the floods to volunteer with disaster services. Ethan's job was a caseworker which includes interviewing and assessing the needs of disaster victims.

What Ethan likes most about volunteering is that he can help others but also build work ethic and character. Ethan is a senior at Treynor High School and plans on pursuing a Bachelors degree in Nusing upon graduation.
